Nutrition and hydration for elderly health
A diet with enough protein is key for maintaining our muscles. Aim for around 1 gram of protein per kg of body weight daily. Healthy muscle tone is important for bone and joint health and helps us keep active, it’s also great for healthy weight management. Make sure you include protein at each meal, from meat, poultry, and fish, or protein from eggs, nuts, legumes, beans, and tofu.
A common concern for seniors is bowel function, getting plenty of fibre from veggies, fruit, and wholegrains can support healthy and regular bowel motions. Stay hydrated throughout the day with herbal teas and water is key for general vitality, joint health and healthy bowel function too.
